FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Philanthropy Film Series Premieres on December 3rd

A new online film series examining critical issues in philanthropy will premiere on December 3, 2025, at
philanthropyfilms.org. The first two short films feature leading voices who are reshaping the field and challenging long-held assumptions about how philanthropy operates.

Episode 1: Philanthropy and Racial Justice Funding (releases on December 3)

This episode traces the surge of racial justice funding following the murder of George Floyd in 2020 — and the subsequent retrenchment as corporations and foundations faced political backlash. It explores what that moment reveals about philanthropy’s capacity for long-term commitment to equity and justice. Featured participants include Steve Phillips, Crystal Hayling, Ash-Lee Woodard Henderson, Nwamaka Agbo, Regan Pritzker, Vu Le, Rajasvini Bhansali, Dr. Maribel Morey, Nick tilsen, and Vanessa Daniel.

Episode 2: Funding in Indigenous Communities (releases on January 6, 2026)

Despite decades of calls for equity, philanthropy continues to underfund Native-led organizations. This episode spotlights the NDN Collective and its groundbreaking work to reclaim and redistribute philanthropic resources for Indigenous self-determination. The film features Nick Tilsen, president of the NDN Collective, alongside leaders of several partner organizations.

The Philanthropy Film Series, directed by Chris Landry of Landry Communications, will continue with additional episodes in 2026 and 2027. Landry, a filmmaker and consultant to foundations and grassroots organizations, and his team bring a cinematic eye to complex questions about power, justice, and impact in the philanthropic sector.

“At a time when this sector and its grantees are under attack,” Landry said, “These films will share the perspectives of some of the boldest people in philanthropy about how we can meet the moment.”

Initial funding for the series was provided by the Chorus Foundation, as part of its final investments before completing its spend-down process. For more information, and to watch the first two episodes,
